There are many alternative social media platforms. We would recommend joining a platform that is decentralized, aka not under control of one corporation of institution. Another important feature is that it should be easy to move your account without losing your posts and followers.
For that reason we would recommend platforms built on the ActivityPub protocol. Examples are Mastodon, Lemmy, Pixelfed.
While Bluesky might seem like an easier alternative, it is not really decentralized and it is not clear how easy it will be to credibly exit the platform in case of a hostile takeover (similar to the hostile takeover of Twitter).
